Jakarta–Bekasi Commute Gets Easier: New Bus Route Expands Intercity Access

Jakarta has taken another step toward improving regional mobility with the launch of a new intercity bus route connecting the capital to Bekasi. Announced in May 2025, this route adds to the Transjakarta-operated intercity fleet and aims to ease traffic congestion, enhance public transit access, and improve commuting conditions for daily travelers.

As reported by The Jakarta Post (2025), the route is part of the Jakarta administration’s effort to extend reliable, affordable public transportation to the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area, especially to key satellite cities like Bekasi, which are home to a growing number of residents working in the capital.

“The new Transjakarta route is expected to reduce reliance on private vehicles and promote integrated public transportation between Jakarta and its neighboring cities,”
The Jakarta Post, 2025

What’s New with the Bekasi Line?

The route operates between Kampung Rambutan Terminal in East Jakarta and Jatimulya in Bekasi Regency, providing a direct, affordable option for commuters who previously relied on personal vehicles, commuter trains, or multiple transfers using angkot (public minivans).

The fare is set at Rp 3,500 (about USD 0.22), consistent with other Transjakarta services, and the buses will run on a regular schedule during peak hours to accommodate workers, students, and intercity travelers.

The service is also expected to integrate with other forms of transportation—such as the MRT, LRT, and KRL (commuter line)—as part of the government’s push toward multi-modal urban mobility.

What This Means for Expats, Investors, and Urban Residents

At Noble Properties Asia, we understand that connectivity isn’t just about infrastructure—it’s about livability, value, and access. The new intercity bus line to Bekasi has implications for a wide range of stakeholders:

  1. More Residential Options for Jakarta Workers

Expats and professionals working in central Jakarta can now consider housing in outer areas like Bekasi, where prices are often more affordable and space more abundant. With improved transit links, the daily commute becomes more manageable and cost-effective.

  1. Increased Attractiveness for Transit-Oriented Developments (TODs)

Real estate near transit nodes—especially those integrated into bus or rail networks—is becoming increasingly desirable. Investors looking into rental properties or suburban townhouses in East Jakarta or Bekasi may benefit from growing demand.

  1. Support for Green Urban Living

By encouraging public transit, Jakarta is promoting more eco-conscious urban development. This is aligned with global trends where expats and families are seeking homes in areas that support reduced car dependency, better air quality, and walkable neighborhoods.

  1. Boost to Property Values in Emerging Corridors

As connectivity improves, previously overlooked corridors between Jakarta and Bekasi are gaining attention. Areas like Jatimulya, Pondok Gede, and Cibubur may see a gradual increase in both residential and commercial demand.

Mobility Is the New Amenity

In the past, location was king in real estate. Today, accessibility is just as critical—especially in a city like Jakarta where traffic can define your quality of life. With each new intercity route, Jakarta and its surrounding cities become more interconnected, livable, and investment-worthy.

Whether you’re an expat family looking for better schooling options, a remote worker searching for peaceful suburbs, or an investor eyeing emerging zones—connectivity is a key part of the equation.
